SPRING 2020 BOX PARTNER

This season, the female founders behind the Spring Box are diving deep into the pivotal moments in their lives that helped them get to where they are today.

Wei Y. Brian, founder of Wei Beauty, discusses how challenges with her son’s health ultimately inspired her to bring moments of self-care to other women’s lives.

As a child growing up in China, I have always loved herbs. I grew them, I cooked with them, ate them and used them on my skin for nourishment. I learned by watching my mom and grandmom using herbs every day. I dreamt I would win a Nobel Peace prize for unlocking the science behind Chinese herbal medicine.

In China, there is an old saying 命中注定, which in English means “We are whom we are, and we do what we are meant to do, it is our destiny.”

After 10 years of marriage, my husband and I welcomed our first son, Alex. At 10-months-old Alex became very sick and, for years, doctors could not identify what was wrong with him. When he turned six, he was finally diagnosed with autism. He started to develop random seizures – twice he was medevacked to save his life. As a mother, I was at a complete loss and feeling hopeless. I wished God took my life in exchange for his health.

Even though it was a very scary time for us, I knew I had to be strong to help him. I tried many treatments for seizures. Nothing worked until I tried traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal blend. Not only did his seizures stop, but he also taught me about facing life’s challenges with Chinese Taoism and deeply believing that “beauty is balance.”

My passion to pass down time-tested herbal beauty recipes to women around the world is why I created Wei Beauty. Wei Beauty’s mission is to help women achieve beautiful skin but more importantly to bring moments of balance and care to her life.

Love,
Wei Y. Brian
