If you’ve ever added 30-45 minutes of “finding parking” time to your commute, this app gets you.
A new app called Pavemint gives Los Angeles drivers the option to find parking (for cheap!) by connecting them with residents and businesses who rent out their parking spaces. And if you’re not using your driveway or parking space over the weekend, you can rent it out to those who are desperately in need. Simple, right?
Pavemint is currently available in the app store, but only to those around the Staples Center. Don’t worry, though — Pavemint plans to expand to Austin, Portland, San Diego, and San Francisco.
Even better, this app also helps the environment. Here are a few facts:
- 30% of city traffic is caused by drivers circling the block looking for parking.
- 18.6 million parking spaces exist in Los Angeles today and there are only 5.6 million cars.
- 270 million gallons of gas is wasted every year as a result of inefficient parking in Los Angeles.
- 4.2 million tons of carbon dioxide is dumped into our air every year because of the way we currently park.
