We are obsessed with all things Olivia Pope. Although we may not be able to steal her designer wardrobe, we do know how to achieve her flawless work look. We spoke with our BFF Laramie Glen, makeup artist and founder of Book Your Look, to get the details on a classic Olivia look. Consider your makeup routine handled!

Exfoliation

The secret to Olivia’s glowing complexion? Exfoliation! Laramie recommends using a product with beads (like a scrub) once a week. She suggests Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Daily Peel because it works for all skin types.

Hydration

Water’s good for body and for your face! Apply a non-toxic serum or moisturizer to your face 5-10 minutes before applying any makeup. Check for ingredients like hyaluronic acid and alpha hydroxyl acids, which attract moisture to your skin. Also, look for grape seed oil, almond oil, and avocado oil which all help to lock in moisture.

Coverage

Use a combination of products to get the best results. First apply a foundation that perfects the skin and doesn’t appear too heavy. You’ll want a foundation that has an underlying yellow color that will match your skin better. Then, use your finger or a small concealer brush to apply concealer to any dark spots, blemishes, or dark circles. Finally, ensure that all your hard work stays in place all day by setting it with a translucent powder.

Sculpt and Glow

Contouring emphasizes Olivia’s amazing bone structure. To get those high cheekbones, use a bronzer or contour color just below your cheekbones and blend with a makeup sponge. Next, apply a highlight, like Benefit’s Watt’s Up!, along your cheekbones, down the center of your nose, and center above your top lip a.k.a. the Cupid’s bow. If you have dry skin or want a “dewy” look, choose a cream contour and highlight. For a more matte finish, try a powder instead.

Eyes

After grooming the brows, use a small, soft brush to apply a long-wear cream shadow to the lids. They key to Olivia’s makeup is how natural everything looks, so choose a color in a soft color like Maybelline’s Color Tattoo in Taupe. Sweep eyeshadow along the lid up to the crease and blend. Make sure to use any shadow left on the brush to blend under your eye. Start at the outside corner and blend towards the center. This adds some depth to the look and really makes those eyes pop. Finish by curling the lashes and add 2-3 coats of your fave mascara.

Lips

Olivia’s lips are one of her most iconic features. To get those kissable lips, prep with a lip scrub to get a smooth base. Then, apply a moisturizing lipstick that mimics your natural lip color.
