Billboard Magazine is speaking out on how we need to crack down on gun violence.
In light of the recent shooting in Orlando and the tragic murder of Christina Grimmie, celebs like Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, and Ellen DeGeneres are campaigning with Billboard to pass stricter laws on gun violence.
Billboard editors shared an open letter to Congress which noted “both tragedies occurred where musicians and music fans gathered” and strongly stated how we need to continue to advocate for gun safety. Their editors, along with the help of leading gun-violence prevention group Everytown for Gun Safety, reached out to those they cover in the music industry to ask for their support. You can find celebs who signed the letter on the cover of Billboard’s most recent issue.
“The one thing that connects the recent tragedies in Orlando is that it is far too easy for dangerous people to get their hands on guns,” the letter states. “We call on Congress to do more to prevent the gun violence that kills more than 90 Americans every day and injures hundreds more, including: require a background check for every gun sale; block suspected terrorists from buying guns.”
This petition comes after the Senate disapproved four new gun control proposals on Monday. Read the full letter here.
