For anyone with sparse lashes or just an aversion to the endless cycle of applying and removing mascara, lash extensions are often the answer. However, like most beauty boosts, lash extensions can get pricey. The key to ensuring your lash extensions last as long as possible? Proper maintenance.
Beyond the “don’t get it wet within the first 24 hours” rule, here are six tips to keep your lashes looking good as new.
Sleep on your back
This is especially important for the first few nights while the glue is drying. Sleep on your back to help avoid any kinks or loosening of the lashes!
Comb it out
Gentle, regular combing is key! Close one eye at a time and use a spoolie to gently roll over the lashes.
Avoid oils near the eyes
That night cream or face oil may be working wonders for your complexion, but it’s certainly not going to do your lash extensions any favors. Avoid applying your favorite oil-based products around the eye area as oils tend to break up the bonds in the glue, which can cause lashes to fall out prematurely.
Ditch waterproof formulas
While your best bet is to avoid eye makeup completely, opt for non-waterproof formulas if you decide to wear eye makeup. Waterproof eyeliner and mascaras are crafted to stay put, making it even more of a struggle to properly remove it.
Remove makeup strategically
Remove any eyeshadow or eyeliner carefully to avoid weakening the extensions or getting cotton fibers stuck in it. We recommend using a gentle makeup remover like micellar water and a cotton swab to delicately wipe away makeup.
Keep your hands off
No matter how much TLC you give it, natural shedding is bound to occur. If you find a loose lash, resist the temptation to tug or twist it off or you’ll risk losing your natural lashes along with it. Let the falsies fall out on its own and reach for the spoolie to brush it back into place in the meantime.
