One little girl had something powerful to say in light of the recent police violence.

Fourth-grader Zianna Oliphant spoke at the first Charlotte City Council meeting since violent protests threatened the city after the killing of Keith Lamont Scott.

She was barely tall enough to reach the microphone but delivered a peaceful and emotional message addressing police brutality which has rattled the nation. She started off her emotional speech said she felt that “we are treated differently than other people” before erupting into tears. But she continued with her speech:

We are black people and we shouldn’t have to feel like this. We shouldn’t have to protest because y’all are treating us wrong. We do this because we need to and have rights. I’ve been born and raised in Charlotte…and I’ve never felt this way until now.
