You’d be surprised at how many things you can do every day to be more environmentally-friendly. From investing in a reusable water bottle to limiting your showers, here are a few simple things you can do on the daily (and convince your friends to do, too) that can make a huge difference.

Buy a reusable water bottle
This one’s a super easy one. Not only are there so many cute water bottle designs, insulated water bottles actually keep your water colder for way longer than plastic bottles. While you’re at it, invest in a reusable coffee thermos too — your barista will thank you!

Shop secondhand when possible
Thrift shops and consignment stores aren’t just for vintage lovers. The next time you’re on the hunt for a new shirt or a cute summer dress, head on over to your local thrift store and see what you can find. Yes, it’s cheaper, but it’s also so much more environmentally-friendly. Think of it as recycling clothes!

Limit your showers
Limit the amount of time you spend in the shower to about seven to 10 minutes. It also helps to stock up on dry shampoo and cut down the number of times you wash your hair a week — it’s better for your hair, too!

Recycle your paper and plastic bags
This goes beyond just recycling paper and plastic bags. If you happen to forget your reusable bag and have to go with paper or plastic, find ways to use it in your house. We recommend using plastic bags to line your small trash bins or using the paper bags to recycle empty cans.

Invest in reusable straws
Yes, you read that right. Think about all of that plastic and paper that usually ends up getting thrown away at restaurants and cafes from one-time use straws. If you must use a straw at a restaurant, pop a reusable one in your bag.
