Ever wondered what to do with an old piece of jewelry that your ex-boyfriend gave you? Or maybe an article of clothing left behind post-breakup? We’ve all been had those moments when we didn’t know what to do with items that reminded us of what once was…

But whether that old necklace brings a tear to your eyes, or the forgotten t-shirt makes you cringe and just brings you down, there’s a marketplace specially designed for you to get rid of that extra baggage — and to ultimately help you move on.

Never Liked It Anyway is an online destination with a “treat yo self” attitude. Here, you’re encouraged to move on, bounce back, and capitalize on all the stuff you’re left with at the end of a relationship. We all go through breakups, so why not make the most of it?

Here’s how it works:

First, list the item you want to sell, categorize it under, “accessories,” “boys stuff,” “bridal,” “everything else,” “girls stuff,” “jewelry,” or “story of the week.” Then, choose between standard and featured listing type. If you choose the featured option, the item will be at the top and get a lot more page views (and hopefully help it sell faster). However, once it sells, $5 will be deducted in exchange.

Now the fun part begins! There are three large text boxes that really make up the heart and soul of the concept behind the website, and double as an almost therapeutic journal entry. First, describe what you’re selling — pretty straightforward. In the second text box, you’re given a space to describe why you’re selling said item, and prompted to tell your story however you want to and feel comfortable with. Lastly, the third text box asks you what your “bounce back plan is,” aka how will you spend the money you make?

And let’s be real: after a breakup, we’re often asked questions like “How are you doing?” or “What happened?” But rather than answering with the automatic “Great!” even more novel is the idea of giving an honest answer through the site.

The best part, however, is the bounce back plan. I personally have never thought of a plan to get myself back on track after a hard breakup, but I’ve also never been prompted with that question. Maybe you know right away, maybe you need to think about it, but either way, the narrative is changing. Here you’re inspired to ditch the PJs and Kleenex for a more motivating alternative that puts you back in charge of your life.

So after uploading an image or two of the item and putting a price tag, you’re ready to list it!

People are selling all kinds of different things on here. For example, there’s a wedding dress by a woman who was dumped a week before the big day, a wedding ring that was listed by a recent divorcee who is ready to move on and pay off her credit card bills with the sale of the ring, and a men’s snowboarding jacket left by an ex-boyfriend.

When I asked a user about her experience, she described a mixture of laughing and crying. “It was so nice to sell a piece and get to tell the story to the future owner. I felt like everything was going to really great homes! The site provides such a beautiful platform for supporting other women and helping them get through a tough time.”

It’s totally up to you how much information you disclose about yourself, so no pressure. Sometimes you just need some support from a stranger (or two) who can empathize with your story, and a plan for yourself to move on. There’s always a silver lining!
