Things are pretty frigid between Abby and Olivia since the whole Andrew debacle — and it’s only getting worse. All of the presidential hopefuls are flying to Miami to talk to Governor Baker and get her endorsement. However, Abby intentionally grounds Air Force One knowing that no other plane around it can take off. This means Mellie’s plane can’t take off, and she won’t get to speak to Governor Baker in time. Mellie takes matters into her own hands. She talks to Fitz, who spills the beans about Olivia murdering Andrew. Mellie now understands why Liv is different and why everyone is so worried for Olivia.
With Fitz’s help, Mellie finally makes it to Governor Baker’s dinner. The conversation around the dinner table doesn’t go so well for everyone. Susan reveals that she doesn’t support Baker’s sugar company that’s polluting the everglades and if Susan is president, that sort of thing won’t be allowed to continue. Baker ends up giving her endorsement to Susan. What Susan doesn’t know is that David made a secret deal with Baker — he will stop the federal investigation into her endeavors if she endorses Susan.
Michael, Cyrus’ husband, finds out that Cyrus is cheating on him. To get back at Cyrus, Michael gives Alex Vargas information about Cyrus’ part in the staged shooting of Senator Vargas. However, the disk is corrupted, and Alex ends up leaking to the press that Senator Vargas’ daughter is battling cancer. Instead of getting the sympathy vote for his brother and gaining respect for himself, Alex is told to pack his things and leave. Turns out, Michael intentionally gave Alex a USB drive that didn’t work to save Cyrus, who has promised to attend marriage counseling. But is that enough to save the marriage? It’s only when Cyrus comes home to an empty closet that he realizes Michael has moved out and taken their daughter.
It looks like people weren’t too happy when it looked like Susan was trying to keep Mellie’s plane on the ground to keep her out of the Baker dinner. To everyone’s frustration, Hollis Doyle ends up winning Florida. Abby and Olivia meet and set aside their differences for one purpose — to take Doyle down. For now, Abby is a gladiator again.
