You don’t have to worry about the government hacking into your Facebook messages.

Facebook rolled out “Secret Conversations” — a new feature that allows Android and iOS Messenger users to send end-to-end encrypted messages to friends.

This feature only works on a single device as Facebook doesn’t yet have the infrastructure to distribute encryption keys across your phone, tablet, and desktop. Also, users must start a new message (it doesn’t retroactively apply to existing message threads).

To use Secret Conversations, go to your profile on the bottom right hand corner of the app. Scroll down until you find the Secret Conversations option. Make sure Secret Conversations is activated.

Create a Secret Conversation by clicking on the new message button at the top right corner of the app. Then select “Secret” (on the top right) to begin an encrypted message with any of your friends. After you send the initial message, the receiving user must agree to the new Secret Conversations feature and then they can see your message.
