Weddings are no joke. There is so much that needs to get done: guest lists, invitations, food, flowers, venues, the list goes on and on. I definitely lagged on most of the wedding planning, but I’m kicking it into gear now!

Are any other soon-to-be-brides out there feeling the pressure? There is one thing on every soon-to-be wife’s to-do list though, the one thing that is literally a pain in the ass… getting in better shape.

And people wonder why women get so panicked over their weddings. We’ve got a lot on our plates! Really though, you have to plan your wedding — which is already pretty stressful — plus get in the best shape of your life? Great.

Our wedding is fast approaching. So I’m kicking my health and fitness into serious overdrive. I’ve been working out with a trainer as well as eating lean and clean… big time.

Since we’re at the peak of wedding season, I figured I’d share some tips for all the brides out there getting in tip top shape before their wedding day. Not getting married and just looking to lean out? These tips are great for you too!

Weight Training Is Essential
If you want to lean out and tone up, you’re going to have to shock your body. Weights build muscle, and muscle burns fat. It doesn’t have to be huge heavy weights. Just remember, the lighter the weights, the more reps you should be doing. The heavier the weights, the less reps you need. Weight training can even include plyometrics. For my favorite workout routines, see TSC Bombshell Body Guide.

Increase Your Water Intake
There are so many reasons you should be extra hydrated before your wedding. First of all, your skin will look more hydrated and dewy. Drinking more water also helps with portion control, reduces water retention ( aka bloating ), and did you know that people often mistake hunger for thirst? Sometimes your body is just a little dehydrated and you think you’re hungry but you’re not! You’re just thirsty. So drink up! Shoot for 50-80 ounces of water per day. Make sure you’re using a good BPA-free water bottle.

Don’t Skip out on Cardio
Cardio will help you burn off that little extra layer of fat you’ve been working on. You know, those little areas that no amount of weights or crunches can seem to kick. Think of cardio like the little helper that allows all of your hard work in the gym to finally shine through. Shoot for an average of 30 minutes 6 times per week. You can do an hour on three days if you want.

Up Your Intake of Lean Protein and Healthy Fats
Fat should not be avoided when you’re trying to lean out, as long as it’s healthy fat. Your body needs it for fuel and brain power. Upping your protein and healthy fats will keep you feeling full and energized so you can power through your day and workouts leading up to your wedding. Check out the Shredding for the Wedding meal plan to see exactly what I’m eating all day, every day until the big day.

Green Tea, and Lots of It!
Green tea is one of the only herbs actually proven to help with weight loss. It’s packed with antioxidants known to improve metabolism functioning — meaning, it helps you burn fat. Plus, it has some caffeine to keep your energy levels up.

OK, so who has some more tips for leaning out and toning up before the big day? I have a few months left before I walk down the aisle, any tips are appreciated! Do tell.
