Jillian Michaels the foremost fitness expert in the world, a renowned life coach, the star of hit TV shows, author of eight New York Times best-selling books, a working mama, and host of an award-winning podcast.

So, naturally, we couldn’t think of a better fit (no pun intended) than Jillian Michaels when it comes to our goal of helping people live their happiest and healthiest lives. This season, you’ll find five videos led by Jillian to help you tone, sculpt, and work toward your dream bod — all available at your fingertips at FabFitFun.com/TV.

We chatted with the fitness and wellness guru about everything from the benefits of working out with a ball to her must-try motivation tips.

We’re so excited to be working with you. What made you want to partner with FabFitFun?
I’m a huge fan of FabFitFun. I think the offerings are excellent and the products are fun and fantastic. I wanted to personally be able to offer people something in that vein, which allowed them to get fit and have fun doing it, which is why we thought my app would be a perfect match for the FabFitFun brand.

Together we created a fitness ball for our members to use at home along with your videos on FFFTV. What’s the benefit of working out with a ball like this?
Variety is key when it comes to exercise. It continually forces the body to adapt to new stimuli, which helps prevent plateauing. And, it helps to prevent boredom by keeping things fresh and different. The ball in particular, is a great tool for developing core strength and fine tuning your stabilizing muscles.

How does your fitness routine change in the winter?
I am lucky to live in a place where the weather is always good. However, for many, I suggest taking advantage of winter sports to stay active and keep fitness fun. Skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating are all great ways to enjoy the season and burn some calories.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about fitness?
There are so many. I would say nowadays the idea that harder is better is a dangerous mindset. Working smarter is key, not “harder.” Harder can overstress the body, impeding progress and increasing the potential for injury.

What advice would you give to someone whose weight tends to fluctuate?
The key with fluctuating weight is finding a way of life that is manageable. People who go up and down tend to take more drastic approaches to health and this leads the pendulum to swing back in the other direction. Ultimately, maintaining weight is simple science. Don’t eat more calories than you burn. Then, simply use common sense with your food choices. Abandon a strict or overly regimented program that makes you feel deprived.

Winter typically brings a lot of comfort food. How do you keep your diet balanced through the holidays?
It’s about eating less of these comfort foods. You can still indulge, just not excessively. And be sure to offset the calorie intake with activity to boost calorie burn.

Do you have any tips and tricks to stay motivated?
Find your “why.” I always say that work with purpose becomes passion, but work without purpose is punishing. Anything worth having in life doesn’t come for free — it requires hard work, but having perspective and a detailed goal you are emotionally connected to helps us push through the more difficult times.
