As the heat wave hits harder, those without any air conditioning are getting the worst of it. Whether you’re trying to lower your bills or you don’t have an A/C unit, the lack of cool air can really wreak havoc on your sanity.

So how do you cool off without A/C? Here are a few simple solutions:

Switch to cotton sheets
Though using cotton sheets doesn’t lower the temperature of your living space, it will keep you much cooler than flannel or jersey sheets (because we all need our beauty rest).

Create a cross breeze
Position a fan across from a window so you create a cross flow of air throughout your whole place. If you have more than one fan, plant as many as possible to create an even bigger gust.

Make your own A/C unit
Channel pre-A/C days by placing a bowl of ice or cold water under your fan to create a cooling mist.

Use your slow cooker more frequently
Turning on your oven only creates an added layer of heat, so make use out of your slow cooker during the warmer months.

Cool your body temperature
Control your own body temperature by placing ice packs or cool washcloths on your wrists, neck, kneecaps, and ankles. Don’t forget to put them back in the freezer so you can use them again later.

Close the blinds
Keep the blinds closed if you open the windows. The sun’s rays can make your place feel hotter than it should so block off as much sunlight as you can.

Unplug appliances
Did you know that when appliances are plugged in they give off extra heat? That’s why it’s important to unplug all of your electronics, especially at night. Every little bit helps!
