We’ve heard it time and time again — dirty makeup brushes lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Cleaning your makeup brushes at least once a week might be the secret to a clearer complexion, but do any of us really know the best way to clean our beloved beauty tools?
Well, we’re bringing you a beauty lesson on how to clean your makeup brushes correctly.
Get a Gentle Soap
Baby shampoo, a gentle facial cleanser, or specialized brush shampoo are among the best options to wash your brushes with.
Wet the Brush
Start by running the brush under warm water. Be sure to avoid wetting the part of the brush where the handle meets the head or bristles, as this can loosen up any glued together pieces.
Add Soap and Lather
Dispense a nickel-sized amount of soap or cleanser into the palm of your hand. Massage the brush bristles into your palm, creating a soapy lather.
Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse the soapy bristles under lukewarm water and repeat the process until the rinsed water runs clean. Your brush should be free of any product throughout the bristles.
Dry Brushes Properly
Squeeze out any excess water with a clean towel and set the brushes aside to dry. Be sure to hang the bristles over the edge of a counter to avoid mildewing and to ensure they dry back into its natural shape.
Remember… your brushes won’t last forever. If your makeup brush is losing shape, fraying, or shedding, it might be time to trade it out for a new one. If you are in the market for a new set of brushes, check out our fab ISH brushes!
