When you hop onto social media and see “success” stories all over – from weight loss to job promotions – it’s important to remember that these brief moments don’t make them any more successful than the next person who doesn’t have a fancy car, an amazing job, or a triumphant story. Remember, success comes in all forms and is unique to each individual.

So then how do you measure success? Well, for starters, the dictionary defines success as, “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” Maybe you have dreams of becoming a doctor and working in a small village helping those who don’t have the means to pay for health care. While you may not be bringing home a hefty paycheck, as long as you’re happy and you accomplished something that you set out to do, then, by definition, you’re “successful.”

And this goes for any field. Whether you’re looking to become a journalist, scriptwriter, business owner, actress, engineer, homeowner, or a stay-at-home mom, there are different “aims” or “purposes” that need to be achieved to be deemed “successful.”

But let’s stray away from the dictionary definition of “success” for a second. It’s important to keep in mind that you don’t have to be the best at everything, have the best body, be the prettiest or smartest in the room, or have the most money in your bank account.

The true meaning of success is whatever you make it. Don’t compare yourself to friends, strangers, or anyone else. Remember to look at yourself and all that you’ve accomplished, and focus on what you have and what you’ve created for yourself because at the end of the day, your journey is yours and yours alone, and only you have the power to create your own version of success.
