Gratitude is a simple way to find relief from stress and negativity – two heavily prevalent responses during this busy time of year.

But instead of letting negative emotions bring you down, incorporate these five simple tips to maintain a positive outlook this season. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did!

Be present
The first step to being more grateful is being truly present. Without considering the past or dreaming about the future, realize what you have right now. Be aware of the small things you sometimes take for granted and take note of the moments that bring you joy, whether it’s buying a new bouquet of flowers or spending time with someone who makes you laugh.

Stop complaining
Instead of dwelling on everything that’s going wrong, shift your focus on everything that’s going right. We know it sounds cheesy, but looking at the glass half full and reframing frustration into appreciation is easier than you think. Once you flip the script, gratefulness becomes second nature.

Say it out loud
Once you’re aware of how much there is to be grateful for, work on saying it aloud. Studies show that giving thanks can make you feel happier – so thank a friend by taking them out to lunch or let your mom know how much you appreciated her phone call.

Write it down
Take a few minutes each morning or night to jot down a few of the simple things you appreciate. Focusing on what you have instead of what you don’t can make all the difference.

Celebrate your blessings daily
When you celebrate positivity, you attract more of the same energy. Show gratitude to your body by treating it well, appreciate your loved ones by checking in with them regularly, and, before you know it, you’ll have even more to be thankful for.

How are you showing gratitude this season? Let us know in the comments below!
