It’s common to catch a cold, or (dare I say it…) the flu, during the winter. To prevent yourself from getting sick, try these three tips to boost your immune system:
Eat foods chock full of antioxidants. Brightly colored fruits and vegetables (berries, citrus fruits, kale, carrots, and spinach) are loaded with antioxidants that help to neutralize free radicals or molecules that can damage cells in your body.
Get enough rest. If you’re sleep deprived, you are more susceptible to getting sick. Experts recommend getting seven to nine hours of sleep per night.
Relax. Chronic stress can suppress your immune system. When you feel stressed, close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths to help you relax.
Exercise regularly. Raising your heart rate for 20 minutes at least three times per week can increase the level of leukocytes in your body, which are immune system cells that fight infection. For workouts you can do anywhere, visit The Workout Girl.
