As you’re making your travel plans for 2023, you will not want to miss the hidden gem that is St. Somewhere Punta Coco, of Holbox Island, Mexico. Holbox Island, Northwest of Cancun, has already generated buzz as a best kept secret travel destination. With St. Somewhere Punta Coco adding boutique luxury flair to the charm that is Isla Holbox, travelers can expect to really get a taste of the “Island State of Mind.”

1. The Hospitality – Mi Casa Es Su Casa

Upon entering the beachfront location, you are welcomed with a view of a greeting that truly sums up the hospitality of the property –  “Mi Casa Es Su Casa.” You can instantly get a sense of the warmth of the staff and the personalized service they provide. The staff is ready to go above and beyond to ensure you have everything you need to enjoy your stay. This includes services, such as vacation planning and offering thoughtful recommendations and coordination for activities at the hotel and the island.

2. The Food & Drink

To be honest, I’m still thinking about how amazing the food & drinks were. It made me understand the running joke from HBO’s White Lotus and how the characters only dined at the hotel bar & restaurants.  Every meal at St. Somewhere is prepared fresh, authentically and of course with some personal flair that makes it so memorable. From breakfast, lunch time by the pool, mixed cocktails and chef-made dinners, everything felt like a curated experience – and all to be enjoyed with instagram worthy views! What makes the food even more special and personalized is that the resort sources all fresh products from the island and local vendors!

A can’t miss experience is their floating lunch or breakfast, which is served on a floating tray and enjoyed in the pool. Other favorites include fresh-made green juice for breakfast, and their ceviche and shrimp tacos. Trust me that you will want to clear space on your phone, as you will 100% want to be reserving an entire photo dump just for food and drinks.

And what’s Margaritaville without a cocktail? While the drink and specialty cocktail menu is endless, their Mango Mezcal-ita is the star of the show and a perfect complement to any meal or happy hour.

Onsite restaurants include: The Sandbar Grill, The Harbor House, Lone Palm & Swim-Up Bar

3. Modern Comfort

St. Somewhere gives you the best of both worlds by adding a little piece of modern comfort to the authentic island vibes and adventure of Holbox. The property has an intimate luxury boutique environment, hosting 39 suites – all which have ocean views! Notable modern comforts in the rooms include air conditioning (not common on the island!), luxury bathrobe, bluetooth speakers, Nespresso machine, mini fridge, and of course in-room bar tools to craft your perfect margarita before you head to dinner. There are a variety of suite types to choose from, including suites that have their own personal plunge pools or direct access to the main pool and swim-up bar! The decor of the suites definitely ignites vacation mode and is inspired by island culture and traditions.

If you’re looking to take in the views on your suite terrace, take advantage of the 24-hour room service and experience some true R&R.

4. Island Vibes & Activities

If your vacation style is more on the active or adventurous side, the Isle of Holbox hosts a variety of experiences that will make your trip unique and memorable. As mentioned, St. Somewhere is no stranger to 5 star service and hospitality. The staff is able to help coordinate and recommend popular experiential activities, such as boat tours to nearby islands, scuba diving, fresh water springs, and experiencing the Bioluminescent Bay. You can also get a better view of island life on sand and sea with bird and whale watching tours, and horseback riding on the beaches of Holbox.

Fun fact – there are no cars in Holbox! To travel and explore throughout your stay, you can rent bike cruisers or golf carts to navigate the island or call a golf cart taxi.

While there is so much culture, art, and shopping in downtown Holbox (and of course food!), there are also plenty of activities onsite throughout the property of St. Somewhere, including sunset yoga, snorkeling, kayaking, beach volleyball, and table games.

5. A Best Kept Secret

If you’re the type of traveler who is not looking for your typical destination and hoping to steer clear of overcrowded and overrun hot spots, then you have come to the right place. The boutique nature of the hotel and island offers an exclusive essence that allows you to partake in everything there is to offer, without having to worry about things like waking up early to reserve a pool chair or spot on the beach.
