The next time you visit SeaWorld, you may see a few shows missing from the program.

The water park announced that the current orcas will be the last generation of whales in its care and that it plans to completely phase out theatrical killer whale shows by 2017.

SeaWorld came under heavy fire after the documentary, Blackfish, debuted, which scrutinized the park’s treatment of its whales and its trainers. Seaworld CEO Joel Manby stated that the company will now move towards a more natural and educational encounter with whales and that SeaWorld is still dedicated to providing the highest quality care for its whales.

Not to mention, SeaWorld now has a brand new partnership with the Humane Society of the United States to advocate for animal welfare.

What does this mean for the future of SeaWorld and its park attendance? That remains to be seen, but so far there have been positive responses all across the board, including praises from PETA, Blackfish filmmaker Gabriela Cowperthwaite, and from social media in general.
