The date that never called you back, the job you thought you were perfect for that turned you down — there’s no way around it, rejection stings.

But as brutal as it feels, rejection actually isn’t all bad. In fact, there are some positive things that come out of a rejection.

It helps us evolve
Where would we be if we never experienced failure? Most of our self-improvement stems from rejection because it forces us to pause, look within, and re-evaluate. If you don’t fall down the spiral of questioning your self-worth, you can turn these road bumps into lessons learned and an opportunity for growth.

It reminds us to put our ego on the shelf
We take rejection personally but rarely is it personal. With perspective, we come to realize that this so-called rejection had nothing to do with our shortcomings and everything to do with circumstances irrelevant to us. It’s a reminder that we should be sourcing our self-worth from within.

It builds character
Rejection keeps us humble and makes us more compassionate. Having to adjust to taking a different path forward, we become more adaptable. In turn, we train ourselves to be more open-minded and less attached to our expectations.

It keeps us motivated
You’ll notice a pattern of strength and work ethic among the most successful people because a setback is merely just a setback to them. If you keep your eye on the prize, rejection can serve as a motivational boost to get to where you want to be. Stay focused on your goals and you’ll be able to withstand any obstacle.

It leads us to the right path
The next time you’re rejected, consider the fact that it might’ve not been the right fit for you. You can choose to dwell and cling on to something that wasn’t meant to be, or you can move forward in search of the opportunity that clicks. After all, when one door closes, another opens.
