It seems like lately the conversation around the so-called water cooler often starts with, “So, I was listening to a podcast this morning and…”
Podcasts are quickly replacing morning radio shows and even books as the new way to gather information and pass the time during the terrible commute down the 405, or as the only thing getting you through that six mile run.
Luckily, with apps like Stitcher and Overcast it’s easier than ever to listen any time you please. There are so many inspiring, informative, and entertaining podcasts out there it was hard to limit this list to just these eight. Happy listening!
An uplifting, inspiring podcast for women designed to help add intention to your day. The spunky host, Jess, is so warm and friendly as she interviews her entrepreneurial guests about anything from living life with intention, intuitive eating, or growing a business.
We know her as the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal, but Sophia Amoruso has taken a step back from the biz and has started this fab podcast. Listen as she interviews musicians, actresses, businesswomen, and casually catches up with her friend Liz at the start of every episode. She is truly a #girlboss.
We are big fans of Leandra Medine’s fashion and editorial blog, Man Repeller, and now she has commissioned her friend, Jay Buim, to interview all kinds of interesting women. We learned from Who What Wear’s Stacy London, the founder of Class Pass, and Into the Gloss’ Emily Weiss to name a few. It’s seriously inspiring.
4. Lady Lovin’
Lo Bosworth — our Laguna Beach love — has expanded her brand to include a fab podcast. She joins her besties, Jilly Hendrix and Greta Titelman, to talk boys, sex, life, and all the things you would chat with your girlfriends about. It feels like we’re at a sleepover every time we listen.
What we love about this podcast is that it explores so many different topics from the gender pay gap to willpower, from the science behind food to how to win a Nobel Prize. It’s no wonder there is six million monthly downloads!
Her book, The Happiness Project, was a huge hit, and now she is sharing her wealth of knowledge with us in a podcast. Every week she is joined by her sister, Elizabeth, to talk about behaviors, habits, change, happiness, and explains how to implement them into your life. From her we’ve learned the difference between being an obliger and an upholder…don’t know what you are? Listen, find out, and be amazed.
7. The Moth
We love being inspired by podcasts, but sometimes it’s fun to just listen to other people tell stories. Each show starts with a theme and the storytellers explore it and deliver unbelievable stories about the human experience. You can also attend live Moth storytelling events in your city!
Sarah Koenig hosts this addicting series that will keep you on your toes. Each season explores a true story and will make you question everything you know about said situation.
