Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited to spoil the number one woman in our life!

But that doesn’t necessarily mean you need to break out the big bucks to show your appreciation for mom. Put your credit card away and gift her something different this year.

You’ll find that all you need for the perfect present is already sitting in your house.

Write a card. If you’re not the best at expressing yourself through writing, start by thinking of what you’re thankful for and maybe throw in a few inside jokes or throwback moments. Whatever you decide to write, don’t forget to sign off with how much you love her — we guarantee this will ignite the waterworks. Also, don’t feel the need splurge on a fancy card and get your DIY on instead. We’re willing to bet your mom will prefer the handmade card over a storebought one.

Breakfast in bed. Cook up some breakfast and deliver the spread straight to her bed! Not only will your mom start her day off right, but she’ll also get the well-deserved rest she probably needed. If you’re not much of a cook, pour some yogurt and granola into a bowl, chop up some fruit, and toast up some frozen waffles! This is one of those “it’s the thought that counts” moments and your mom will appreciate the effort.

Spend the day with her. Giving your time to someone is one of the best ways to show your appreciation for them. Go on a picnic at the park, pamper her with an at-home spa day, or just have some heart to heart with a day in. Don’t sweat if your plans don’t work out — you’d be surprised at how much your mom just wants to spend time with you.

Take over chores. Vacuum the floors, wash the dishes, take out the trash — do everything your childhood self would’ve never thought to do. A chore-free day might be exactly what your mom needs.

Find a DIY project. Whether you don’t have the extra bucks to get your mom the gift you want or you just want to give her something more personal, a DIY project might be your best bet. You can customize your own picture frame, embroider her favorite word on a tee, paint a picture, or write 50 reasons why you love her and throw it into a jar. The options are endless, so get your creative juices flowing!
