Jenny Bird, founder and CEO of JENNY BIRD, shares how she created her own career path.
“I grew up in the countryside outside of a tiny town in Canada with a population of 3,000. I had space to let my imagination run wild and learned sewing early in life. I was a small-town girl with big dreams though, that’s for sure.
After following the respected life path to business school and then landing a good job in marketing after college, I found myself unfulfilled. I wanted a big, juicy, creative life, and I wanted to control my own destiny. So, in 2008, I founded my line driven by a desire to work for myself and to really love what I did every day. I had no formal design training, but I loved fashion.
I started in leather handbags — I would look up wholesale leather suppliers and call them or knock on their doors begging to talk with them.
Of course, the hurdles and setbacks were frequent and grueling, so I learned quickly I needed to protect my optimism and mindset. I started celebrating each small win and rolling them into the next opportunity. I realized that good quality, beautifully designed fashion jewelry was hard to find, and I loved designing jewelry the most.
Now, 12 years later, JENNY BIRD is a leading global accessories brand sold in over 14 countries worldwide. It’s also a favorite among fashion insiders and A-list celebrities alike, including Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Celine Dion, Kacey Musgraves, Michelle Obama, and Margot Robbie.
Now the goal is to use the brand’s platform to lift others up in the world with our charitable efforts. Dream a little dream! Then take steps towards it. You never know where those steps will take you!”
