Meet the toothbrush that made us question everything.

FOREO’s ISSA Toothbrush, which we are so excited to feature in our Summer 2026 FabFitFun Box, has been turning heads in the oral care world since day one. We sat down with their product development team to find out what makes it so different. Why silicone? Why now? Spoiler: once you hear it, you’ll wonder why it took this long for a toothbrush like this to exist!

Brand Origin & Philosophy

FOREO launched in 2013 and almost immediately disrupted very established categories. What was the founding vision?

FOREO was built on a very simple, slightly dangerous idea: what if the things we use every single day just weren’t good enough?

Our founder didn’t come from the beauty world — he’s an engineer, led by curiosity and a constant need to reexamine things. Why should cleansing take so long? Why does “effective” so often mean aggressive? Why are we still using materials that trap bacteria? That instinct to look at something familiar and ask, “why is it like this… and what if it didn’t have to be?” — that’s where everything began.

FOREO sits at the intersection of beauty, wellness, and technology. Was that intentional from the start?

It was never about categories. It was about outcomes. Skin is biology. Oral care is health. Confidence is emotional. Technology is simply the most powerful tool we have to improve all of it. People eventually called it “beauty tech” — but we’ve always been in a category of our own.

Is that disruptor instinct baked into the culture?

Completely. At FOREO, “we’ve always done it this way” is probably the least convincing argument you can make. We’re wired to challenge, simplify, rebuild — not for the sake of disruption, but because we genuinely believe better is possible. That’s how LUNA happened. That’s how ISSA happened.

Meet the ISSA

The traditional toothbrush hasn’t evolved in decades. What was the industry getting wrong?

People had quietly accepted a lot of things they shouldn’t have — discomfort, harshness, constantly replacing their brush, questionable materials. So we went back to basics: What if brushing could be gentler and still more effective? What if hygiene were built into the material itself? What if this daily routine actually felt good? That’s where ISSA started.

Silicone bristles are still unconventional in oral care. How does sonic pulse technology work differently with silicone?

Switching from nylon to silicone wasn’t a small tweak — it was a complete shift in thinking. Silicone is non-porous, ultra-hygienic, incredibly soft, and designed to last. But the real transformation happens when you combine it with sonic pulsations. Instead of relying on pressure and friction, ISSA uses high-intensity pulsations to create micro-movements that lift away plaque while the bristles glide over teeth and gums. Less force, more intelligence.

When someone picks up the ISSA for the first time, what do you want them to feel?

Curiosity first. Then a tiny moment of “wait… this is a toothbrush?” The design doesn’t look clinical or intimidating — it looks like something you want to use. Before it’s even switched on, we want people to feel like this is different.

Oral health has had a real cultural moment. How has that shift influenced how you think about the ISSA?

It’s reinforced something we’ve believed from the beginning: oral care is foundational. Your smile, your confidence, your overall health — they’re all connected. People are now investing more into their routines and expecting more from their products. For us, that means continuing to elevate the experience, not just in performance, but in how it fits into a broader lifestyle of self-care.

For someone discovering FOREO for the first time through their summer box, what should that experience tell them about the brand?

That this is a brand that refuses to accept “good enough.” If someone tries FOREO and thinks, “This feels smarter. This feels better. Why wasn’t it always like this?” — then we’ve done exactly what we set out to do.
