WINTER 2019 BOX PARTNER

This season, we’re honored to partner with the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement (WAM) founded by Maria Shriver to bring awareness to the importance of brain health and women-focused Alzheimer’s research.

In the U.S., a new brain develops Alzheimer’s every 65 seconds — and two-thirds of them belong to women. Start leading a brain-healthy life today with a few of WAM’s best tips below.

Get moving
Research shows that exercise improves blood flow to the brain — and not just cardio. While aerobic exercise seems to enhance overall brain function, resistance training seems to improve memory and cognitive function. Do them both!

Replace salt with herbs and spices
Not only will this help your blood pressure, which is good for your brain, but many spices also have anti-inflammatory effects. Be generous with the cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, oregano, rosemary, and cilantro.

Change it up
Take an alternate route to work. Open doors with your nondominant hand. Stand on one foot while brushing your teeth. Shifting habits helps create new pathways in the brain.

Never worry alone
Sharing your concerns and grief with others lowers the stress hormone, cortisol, and increases oxytocin, a hormone that has a natural calming effect. Also, studies have shown that laughing can relieve stress and help stimulate your immune system.
