Sunscreen should be at the very top of your beauty list, especially during summer months when sunny rooftops and beach getaways with your girlfriends are involved. The downfall is that frequent SPF applications mixed with humidity can be a skin clogging disaster.

Angela Portella, Spa Director at The Guerlain Spa located within The Towers of the Waldorf Astoria New York, shared her expertise on how to remove the dirt and grime from your pores — and how to stay shine-free!

Wash Your Face Twice a Day
Sometimes we get lazy or have a late night and want to skip rinsing our face. Stash a packet of makeup wipes by your bedside to make it easy!

Use a Toner
Apply toner with a cotton ball after cleansing face in the evening. Toner helps rid skin of any dirt, oil, and residue left from the day and wipes away leftover makeup! Make sure you remember to apply toner to your neck as well.

Exfoliate the Grime Away
Exfoliate twice a week in the shower with a gentle scrub. The steam from the shower will open up pores allowing skin to get a deep clean.

Skincare Tips

Indulge in Facials
In the summer as the season changes so does our skin. First and foremost, deep cleansing facials are recommended in the summer months as more oil is produced allowing more build up in the skin. I suggest guests receive Guerlain Spa’s Radiance Facial or the 60-minute Orchidee Imperiale “Cure” Facial.

Keep Brushes Squeaky Clean
Clean your makeup brushes once a month with an inexpensive baby shampoo in warm water and let air dry. Baby shampoo doesn’t contain any unnecessary components and does a fabulous basic clean.

Switch to Oil-Free Moisturizer
To prevent breakouts in the summer, use oil-free moisturizer. During the hotter months your natural oil combined with the oil-free moisturizer is enough to keep your skin well-hydrated. This trick will also help prevent skin from looking too shiny in the summer.
