Who can deny the delicious taste of basil? The fresh yet slightly sweet flavor profile makes it easy to pair with just about any fruits and veggies, pasta dishes, and more.

Not only that, but the herb is also so easy to grow in the comfort of your own kitchen. And now that we’re spending more time at home, you should take advantage of this time to cultivate your green thumb. If you’re a first-timer at growing herbs, we recommend growing the True Leaf Market Italian Large Leaf Basil Seeds in the Short Stories LED Indoor Planter. Yep, it’s that simple!

After you’ve grown some basil, here are two refreshing recipes you can whip up again and again.

Avocado Basil Pesto

1 avocado
Handful of basil
1⁄2 lemon, juiced
1-2 garlic cloves, chopped
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
Pinch of salt and pepper

In a blender, blend the ingredients until smooth. Add 1⁄4 cup water if you want the pesto to be a thinner consistency. Serve it with chips, or use it as a sauce with your favorite pasta.

Pro tip: Serve the food in an adorable lunchbox, like the Our Place Lunchbox, for all the picnic vibes

Strawberry Lemon Basil Water

1⁄4 cup strawberries, sliced
1⁄4 cup basil, chopped
1 lemon slice, quartered

Place all ingredients in a pitcher and pour water over it. Chill for at least four hours before serving.
