Harvest Sangria recipe courtesy of Homemade by Ayesha Curry

Ingredients
1/4 packed cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup water
6 cloves, whole
1 apple, such as Honeycrisp, cored and chopped
4 ounces spiced rum (preferred Captain Morgan)
8 ounces full-bodied red wine, such as Syrah, chilled
1 (12-ounce) bottle hard cider, such as Crispin or Angry Orchard, chilled
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions
1. First, make the spiced simple syrup. In a small saucepan, bring the brown sugar, water, and cloves to a boil over medium-high heat. Lower the heat to a simmer and cook, stirring frequently to avoid burning the sugar, until the liquid turns into thick, dark syrup, two to three minutes. Let cool to room temperature, and then spoon out cloves.
2. In a cocktail shaker or bowl, muddle the apple pieces and rum together, mashing and breaking up the apple pieces. Strain the rum into a carafe or pitcher, pressing gently on the apple solids to get as much liquid as you can. Add the spiced simple syrup and stir until the syrup has been incorporated. Stir in the wine, apple cider, and cinnamon.
3. To serve, put ice in four glasses and pour the sangria over the ice.
