A woman in the workplace isn’t seen as abnormal or special. A woman in a leadership position isn’t a crazy concept either.
In fact, ladies have been killing it and proving that a) they’re just as capable as men in the workplace, and b) they won’t lower themselves to common stereotypes or roles. And there are so many amazing role models we can take inspiration from.
Below are some of our favorite quotes from #ladybosses who not only lead their companies but also lead great lives and push themselves to achieve their goals. We hope these words of wisdom will inspire you as much as it inspired us.
Take care of yourself. “You need to be able to nurture yourself in order to be a good mother, good at your job, good at servicing your community. I really believe women can do it all, but they can’t do it all at the expense of their health, their sleep, and their sense of well-being.” – Arianna Huffington, Founder of The Huffington Post
Gain respect by working for it. “You don’t get taken seriously by asking someone to take you seriously. You’ve got to show up and own it. If this is a man’s world, who cares? I’m still really glad to be a girl in it.” ― Sophia Amoruso, Founder of Nasty Gal
Tackle problems as they arise. “The biggest lesson I learned, and I take it to everything I tackle now, large or small, inside of work and outside: If you have a problem, you’ve got to solve it. Because that problem is going to get bigger in six months. It could get bigger in two years. But it’s not going to get smaller with time.” – Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors
Feeling burnt out means you haven’t found your rhythm. “I have a theory that burnout is about resentment. And you beat it by knowing what it is you’re giving up that makes you resentful. I tell people: Find your rhythm. Your rhythm is what matters to you so much that when you miss it you’re resentful of your work…so find your rhythm, understand what makes you resentful, and protect it. You can’t have everything you want, but you can have the things that really matter to you. And thinking that way empowers you to work really hard for a really long period of time.” – Marissa Mayer, President and CEO of Yahoo!
Use your success to help others. “So the first thing that success gives you is financial independence. That’s great. The second thing that success gives you is a voice. You have a voice. All of a sudden, people listen to you, pay attention to what you say. And what I feel is that if you acquire that, it’s your duty, responsibility and also privilege to use that voice for people who have no voice. That’s my description of success.” – Diane von Furstenberg, Fashion Designer
Do what you love. “You just need to have a love for what you’re doing. It’s not about thinking that it’s the cool things; it’s about really believing in it.” – Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue
