Chances are, there are a lot of things in your house that you can probably toss. From expired products to old clothes that are just taking up space in your closet, it’s best to accept that these items no longer serve a purpose.

So to help you get started, we rounded up 10 items that are quick and easy to get rid of.

Makeup
Did you know that makeup has an expiration date? The ingredients in most liquid products (foundation, primer, lip gloss) have a six-month shelf life before causing skin irritation or not working the way it’s supposed to. Mascara and eyeliner should be discarded every three months as they build up bacteria.

Skin care products
Like makeup, the lotions and potions we love to use on our face and body also have an expiration date. Acne products should be thrown out after six months to avoid skin irritation (because that defeats the whole point of skin care, right?).
Most products, if not all, should have a number followed by the letter “M” to tell you how long you can use the product for once it’s been opened.

Toothbrush
Rule of thumb: toothbrushes should be replaced every three months to prevent frayed bristles and bacteria. So protect your pearly whites and replace your toothbrush!

Old phone cases
Nobody wants to throw out their old phone cases because let’s be honest, you probably paid good money for it. But hoarding a case that protected your old iPhone 6 is just adding clutter. If it doesn’t fit your current phone, there’s no use for it anymore.

Broken chargers
We all have a stash of old electronic accessories that haven’t seen the light of day for a long time. If there’s no way of fixing the accessory, toss it and just get a new one.

Old clothes
We know, we know. Saying goodbye to old clothes is easier said than done, but keeping it stuffed in the back of your closet is just wasting space. Things to toss: jeans that haven’t fit since college, shirts with stains that just won’t come out, and anything else you haven’t worn since 2005. Better yet, donate it to a secondhand store or make some money out of it by selling it online.

Socks
Even if you have both pairs of socks, if the elastic is worn out and your socks keep slipping off, it’s time to throw it away.

Expired milk
Don’t put off cleaning out your refrigerator. Check your yogurt, milk, and cheese, and throw out everything that’s spoiled. Nobody wants to eat food that’s gone bad.

Old blankets
There’s nothing better than snuggling up on the couch with a cozy blanket, but that fuzzy throw won’t last forever. Once it loses its soft coat and begins to fray, it’s time for a replacement.

Magazines
Old fashion or gossip magazines that you flipped through once upon a time are easy items to throw out. It piles up collecting dust, and getting rid of it will help reduce clutter and clear up shelf space. Plus, there are plenty of online magazines now that you can read instead (wink, wink).
