We love a good workout sesh, but let’s be honest. Life happens and we can’t always make it to the gym or spin class.

Luckily, there are plenty of other ways to get fit…right at home! You can still get in an amazing strength-training workout without fancy exercise equipment by using items you already have in the kitchen, living room, and around the house.

So next time you miss the gym, consider using the common household items below for an effective at-home workout!

Soup Cans
Head to your pantry and grab a set of soup cans. They can easily sub as weights and you can use them in a variety of upper body exercises like shoulder presses and bicep curls. Hold one in each hand during cardio (like when you’re walking the dog) to add even more resistance.

Laundry Detergent Bottles
If you want more weight, opt for a couple laundry detergent bottles (five pounds each). The handles make them easy to grip, and the liquid adds more to your workout — the liquid is constantly moving and it forces you to engage stabilizer muscles. Use them like you would use dumbbells or try double arm high pulls, wood chops, or overhead presses if you really want to work your shoulders.

Chairs
If you have a sturdy, stationary chair, you can do an array of calorie-busting exercises! Looking to tone up your bottom half? Try leg raises or squats. You can also do tricep dips on the chair which target arms and shoulders, while side skaters and incline pushups work your whole body.

Wall
Use any wall in your house to do wall sits which strengthen your legs and core. You can also do yoga inversions on a wall as it’ll provide stability and help you get you into the right posture.

Stairs
A top training method of pro athletes and fit city dwellers alike, stairs are a great way to get a better backside and toned legs. Ditch the stair master and get in your daily cardio by walking or running the stairs at your apartment complex or in your house. You only need a couple of stairs for box jumps and lunges.
