There are good hair days, and then there are days where you take 50 selfies because your hair just looks that good. The main difference is because you’ve made a trip to the salon and had a pro give you a gorgeous blowout or effortless waves. But sometimes there isn’t time to make it into the chair of your favorite hairstylists, so use these five tips from the industry’s top professionals to have more amazing hair days.
Avoid alcohol
To keep all hair types and colors healthy, Tiffanie Richards, colorist at Nunzio Saviano Salon recommends, steering clear of any product that contains alcohol and instead opting for something that says it’s moisturizing or offers hydration. Any product that has the first or second ingredient as alcohol — unless it’s veggie alcohol — will dry out your hair and contribute to hair woes like breakage and frizz.
Give hair texture
“Texture is important for fine hair. I don’t necessarily like my hair big, but a bit of wave without frizz makes it all look fresh again. So, I use a lightweight oil that I can also use more than once a day to give my hair texture without it weighing down my hair,” shares Marilisa Sears, Artistic Director at Marc Anthony True Professional.
Pick the right hair tools
Heated tools temperatures range from 300-450 degrees, and if you aren’t creating a barrier between, you’re essentially frying your hair and encouraging the hair to break and look dull. Richards suggests, “Always using a heat protectant spray, proper styling tools and never use a hot tool above 410 degrees” to keep hair healthy and hydrated. We recommend using a brush like the Aria Beauty Luxe Detangling Electroplated Brush, which has anti-static properties and super-flex bristles to prevent strand breakage and reduce stress to the scalp while blow-drying.
Use a hair mask regularly
“My number one tip in my routine is using a smoothing mask in replacement of my conditioner. This gives my now waves the perfect amount of moisture and hydration, so they lay better,” explains Giovanni Vaccaro, Glamsquad Artistic Director. We recommend AG Hair Fast Food Leave-On Conditioner because it uses humectants and Abyssinian oil to replenish dry locks, repair split ends and leave hair bouncy and shiny.
Put hair in a bun before bed
“Change up the way you wear your hair at night, such as in a braid or a bun. If you put your hair in a bun, avoid bobby bins, which can be super damaging. Also, make sure to switch up the direction you twist the bun, always use a scrunchie and apply a strengthening treatment to your hair before you braid to help seal the cuticle and avoid split ends,” explains Sarah Potempa celebrity hairstylist and inventor of The Beachwaver Co.
