Stopping to smell the roses can be wonderful. But if you don’t think you have time to relax amidst the hustle and bustle, you actually do! Work these tips into your daily routine and give yourself a break.
Take a Different Route
It doesn’t matter if you walk or drive to work. All you need to do is turn down a different street, and you’ll start to notice things you’ve never seen before. A simple change in scenery can help make your commute a lot better and refresh your state of mind.
Give Yourself Plenty of Time
If you’re the type to run late, double the time you think it’s going to take to arrive at your destination. This will encourage you to get ready earlier and will ease the rush of all your errands before you head out. Plus, traffic will never make you late again.
Set Your Intentions
Put meaning into everything you do whether it be your job, hanging out with friends, or working out. Don’t do anything just for the sake of doing it. Be present in every situation and intend to evoke happiness! With a good intention in mind, you’ll see the bigger picture and recognize the surroundings that make it so great.
Brief Moment of Silence
Many people find this to be pointless, but you can make it what you want it to be. Whether you close your eyes and lie on your bed or take a walk without your phone, just let yourself be for a few minutes. Forget about your to-do list for a second and let your surroundings melt away. Afterwards, you’ll feel less tense and anxious.
Don’t Be Afraid to Say No
You’ve likely heard this before but remind yourself that it’s okay to say no. It’s better to turn something down, whether it be a favor or an invitation to dinner, rather than making the commitment and breaking it later. With less clutter in your schedule, you can give your undivided attention to what really matters to you.
Schedule Time for You
Have a date night for yourself or with your loved ones. Make the effort to block out an hour or two in your schedule to relax — you’re more likely to do it if its actually written in your calendar, too. Enjoy your time and let yourself have some fun.
