Starting today, Lyft will give customers the exact cost of a ride instead of a price estimate.
Uber already rolled out with upfront fares for regular rides in July, and Lyft is now doing the same. The new feature is similar to the price feature for an Uber Pool or Lyft Line, but it’s still subject to change if the ride takes more or less time than expected or if the destination is changed.
“Before you buy a pair of jeans, you probably check the price tag. You don’t want to be surprised when you check out. The same is true when you take a Lyft ride. Now you can ride a little easier knowing how much you’ll be charged — no surprises,” Lyft wrote in a blog post.
The update is currently available in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Nashville, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Phoenix, and it will soon be available to other cities in the near future.
