Um, what? This job recruiter went a little too far with his “advice” on interviewing.
Bruce Hurwitz shared a LinkedIn blog post advising women not to wear their engagement rings to job interviews because it’ll send the message that they’re “high maintenance.”
When a man sees that ring he immediately assumes you are high maintenance. When the woman at the office who has the largest diamond on her finger, sees that ring, she will realize that if you are hired she will fall to second place and will, therefore, not like you. Lose the ring!
Hurwitz explained that not only will a man be intimidated by a ring on a woman’s finger, but other women in the office would also feel competitive over the size of the ring.
After a handful of angry commenters called Hurwitz’s advice “ridiculous drivel,” he published another post stating that men shouldn’t wear expensive watches to interviews (sure, because that evens the playing field).
