Disaster shook central Italy on Wednesday morning when it was hit with a 6.2-magnitude earthquake. The death toll has since risen to 247. Several small towns in the region were demolished and the government is working to amplify their recovery operations.
In the meantime, here’s how you can help:
Donate Blood
There are several blood donation centers set up throughout Rome where you can give blood.
Eat Italian Food
Italian restaurants have been asked to make donations for every plate served of “Pastra Amatriciana,” a dish named after the town Amatrice, which was one of the worst hit by the earthquake. More than 600 restaurants throughout Italy are donating 2 euros for every dish served and Italian restaurants in other countries are quickly catching on.
Give Money
You can donate to the Italian Red Cross or to donate in U.S dollars you can give to this fund set up by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. You can also donate to Global Giving which is a nonprofit collection donations to help fund grassroots relief efforts and distribute the donations to local organizations.
