Shaving during the summer is a must, but sometimes there isn’t always time.

Luckily, I found an alternative so I don’t always have to wonder where my razor is. #blessed

I know what you’re thinking: professional laser treatments. But that might burn a hole in my wallet faster than it would burn the hair off my legs. Laser treatments range around $350-$500 and you have to go more than once for it to be effective.

So when I heard about intense pulsed light (which is another form of laser treatment) and how I could use it while binge watching Friends — I thought this is definitely worth a try.

I went with the Gillette Venus Silk-expert powered by Braun because it’s the only IPL in-home device that uses SensoAdapt technology, a skin tone sensor that “reads” your skin to deliver the right amount of light. Oh, and it’s super pretty too (that white and rose gold combo though!).

So how do you use this bad boy? Check out our tips and tricks below:

IMG_6664 Make Sure to Shave First
Yes, it sounds counter intuitive, but be sure to shave prior to using the device on any part of your skin. If you don’t, you’ll just be burning the hair at the top of the skin, not at the root of the hair — and it won’t help reduce hair growth at all.

Untitled-2 Treat All At Once
You can use the device continuously through an IPL session by holding the button down and gliding it slowly over the skin. Or, you can treat each section of the skin. Either way, the SensoAdapt technology is quick and reads your skin tone efficiently so you don’t need to adjust the light setting on your device every time you treat another part of your skin (remember, you’re not the same skin tone all over).

You May Feel Very Slight Discomfort
The device needs to emit gentle pulses of light underneath the surface of your skin and then it will target the melanin in the hair follicle, resulting in slower and lesser hair growth — so depending on your tolerance, you may feel a tingling discomfort. It feels kind of like a rubber band is gently snapping at your skin. Note that there is an option on the device to emit a lighter energy level, which means less discomfort.

You Only Need to Use it Once a Week
Gillette Venus recommends using the product once a week for 4-12 weeks if you want to see noticeable hair reduction. You may need some touch-ups here and there for spots you may have missed.

Untitled-1 You Can Wear Sunglasses
The device is clinically tested and safe for use without sunglasses, however, the light emitted from the device can still be pretty bright. Feel free to wear sunglasses if you’re using it straight in one sitting to make the two-second flashes less intense.

IMG_6667 You Can Use It Anywhere (Almost)
The device is FDA approved and you can use it almost anywhere on your body, whether it’s your bikini line, upper lip, legs, or underarms! We also love that you can just plug the device in at any time (whether you’re in bed or about to take a shower) and treat away.

So if you’re looking for a long-term, at-home hair removal solution, the Venus Silk-expert is your answer. It provides a convenient, high-quality experience in just 4-12 weeks! Purchase the product online or in-store at Amazon.com and Bed Bath & Beyond for $399.
