She first stole our hearts as Grace Adler on Will & Grace, and more than 16 years later, Debra Messing is still inspiring us to be the best version of ourselves, even if that means occasionally throwing back some pizza.

We had the chance to chat with the gorge actress (currently starring in The Mysteries of Laura on NBC) about life as a busy mom, the secret to her uh-mazing complexion, her fave healthy foods, and more!

In The Mysteries of Laura and in real life, you’re a working mom. What advice would you give to other working moms who are struggling to balance it all?
Every day I just tell myself, “Do the best you can.” It’s incredibly hard and stressful trying to be a present mom, a great employee, a good friend, etc. There are going to be hours where you feel really great and other hours where you’re going to feel like you let someone down. We are only human. There’s only so many hours in a day, so I just try to remember to be kind to myself. My heart is in the right place, I’m not scared of hard work, and I’m constantly reevaluating what needs attention in my life.

You’ve talked about having pretty bad allergies. How do you change up your skin care, hair, and makeup routine to make sure you always look and feel your best?
Yes! I have had horrible allergies all my life. I found Zyrtec, which gives me 24-hour relief and has been a lifesaver. When it comes to skin care and makeup, I always use fragrance-free products and I drink a lot of water because it makes a difference in my skin and my overall health. I also often start the day off by filling a big bowl of water with ice and aloe juice. Then, I dip a freezing cold washcloth into the solution and press it on my face, which reduces any puffiness. It’s freezing cold, but it works! I am also vigilant about making sure my makeup brushes are clean.

You’re also in amazing shape. What are your favorite workouts right now?
Thank you! My schedule is so busy that I focus more on healthy eating and just playing outdoors with my son. I don’t have a specific workout routine, just staying active and eating healthy.

When it comes to eating healthy, what are your go-to’s?
Avocado with lemon and sea salt, green juices, salmon, lots of vegetables.

What food do you wish had zero calories?
Pizza!

If you could give any advice to your 25-year-old self, what would you tell her? Is there anything you wish you knew back then?
Don’t worry so much, and don’t be so scared. I remember feeling like there was a right and wrong way of doing everything and everything felt so consequential at the time. I’ve learned that you can’t really make plans because life always just happens. Set goals for yourself, but understand that there are many different ways to get there and be patient.
