Splitwise is ideal for anyone who has roommates. It keeps a running total over time so you can pay each other back in a single, large payment. Not only that, the app is free (for both your phone and computer) and provides mediation advice for common fairness issues that arise when splitting.
Tab
Splitting the bill at a restaurant is about to get a whole lot easier. Simply take a picture of the receipt and tap the items you ate, then pass your phone along to the next friend. Once the dishes have been divided, the app calculates your tax and tip based on what you ordered. You can even split an item with someone — perfect if you were digging into your partner’s fries all night.
Billr
If you’re eating or drinking in a huge group, this app might come in handy. You can add up to 16 people, split any shared items, and set the tax and tip amounts. Each person will receive their copy of the bill via email or text and can pay with their preferred method.
Settle Up
Although this app isn’t free ($1.99), it’ll save you time — which in our eyes, is an investment. Some notable features of Settle Up include being able to receive money and pay friends in any currency, settle debts, and send reports to your group via email.
Venmo
Venmo makes splitting everyday expenses easy, but it also makes all the transactions within the app. We especially like the reminder feature, letting you gently nudge a friend that hasn’t paid for their share of happy hour. The social aspect of the app is also fun — Venmo even rolled out their own emojis to spice up your timeline.
Splittr
Got a vacation with your ladies coming up? Have your group download Splittr so they can add their expenses throughout the trip — it will tell everyone who’s paying next and who owes whom how much. It’s great for international travel because it works offline and all currencies are supported.
