Shopping during this time of year can really strain your budget. But gift giving is expected during the holidays, as well as hosting friends, attending parties, etc. — which, of course, all require money.

You might not have gotten the whole budgeting concept down this season, but here are some of our best tips to buy less while getting more.

Buy in bulk. From your toiletries to hostess gifts, it’s almost always more affordable to buy gifts in sets. Whether it’s a package of mini candles to keep on hand or your favorite perfume sampler, you’ll get your money’s worth and have back ups for when you inevitably begin to run out of stocking stuffers.

Shop off-season sales. Stores begin to slash prices on items that aren’t in season, which gives you the opportunity to snag some amazing deals. Throw some winter accessories in your cart after the holiday season ends, and you’ll have a whole closet full of gifts for Christmas 2017. The same goes for holiday wrapping paper and decorations!

Do your research. We try not to spontaneously spend, especially on something that could be found at another store or online for a smaller price. Use apps like ShopSavvy or Purchx to help you get the best prices around town.

Get rewarded. It’s almost a rarity for a store to not offer a rewards program. From Starbucks to Nordstrom, you earn stars/points for each purchase. Why not get compensated while shopping for things you were already going to buy?! Pro tip: Avoid stores that want you to buy into their program… it’s often not worth the money.
