“I reached into my backpack, handed him my pencil, and watched as a wave of possibility washed over him.”
It was a short encounter between a man and a little boy in India that marked the beginning of Pencils of Promise, a for-purpose organization that believes everyone deserves access to quality education.
With Pencils of Promise’s amazing fundraising efforts to build schools, train teachers, and provide health education in the developing world comes many people who believe in the organization, help spread awareness, and give donations…but what exactly do the funds go to?
Well, Pencils of Promise is leading a push for transparency and innovation by ensuring everyone knows exactly what the money is going towards by providing:
- Quarterly Transparency Reports to share their most up-to-date results and data across all aspects of their work
- Impact Progress Reports for an in-depth analysis of the programs’ impact throughout the 2015-2016 academic year in each partner country: Ghana, Guatemala, and Laos
All of the data (which can be accessed through their Live Data Hub on Tableau) is updated in real time from the field and analyzed — providing hard data like how many assessment tests were administered or the number of water filters that were installed in a school. Amazing, right?
