Whether it’s a high-pressure job, a bad relationship, or trying to remember the words to our national anthem – life can be stressful! And when you feel anxious, it can lead to sleep problems and a constant feeling of fatigue.

We spoke with FFF board advisor and wellness coach Dr. Jay about how to get a more restful sleep and wake up energized every day!

Go to sleep at the same time each night. A steady routine helps reinforce your body’s sleep-wake cycle.

Get regular exercise. Studies have shown that consistent physical activity can lead to better sleep. That, and watching James Franco host the Oscars.

Avoid eating large meals late in the day. Finish dinner two hours before bedtime and try not to snack in between.

– For a more high-tech approach check out Zeo, a lightweight wireless headband with a bedside display that acts as your personal sleep coach (get free shipping with the code FABFIT11). Combined with Zeo’s online analytical tools, the device will analyze and improve your sleep patterns.

As far as waking up…

Set your alarm clock to your favorite song and ban that screeching clock! Try making a playlist of great, upbeat songs to wake up to.

Do some jumping jacks right when you wake up. Dr Jay explains, “Moving your large muscle groups when you get out of bed gets your circulation going – you’ll wake up quicker.”

Still can’t get out of bed? Try putting a picture of Nick Nolte’s mug shot on your nightstand. Nothing like a good scare to get the day going!
