We’ve totally had Scandal withdrawals since its two week break — have you? Finally, the show has returned to bring us political maneuvering, secret meetings, and of course, some of Olivia Pope’s fabulous coats.
But amidst all of that, there were five moments that really made us gasp. Spoilers ahead!
Vanessa is found in a compromising position. She’s supposed to be doing an interview with Sally Langton, but instead Vanessa is found drunk and disheveled with a man after getting into a car accident. This doesn’t really come as a surprise as her drinking and behavior have been out of hand for a while. It’s clear that she and Jake are having problems and she’s acting out to try to get his attention.
Olivia reveals her true motive behind getting Mellie the Oval Office. While fighting with Jake, Liv confesses that she has to win because she wants redemption for Defiance. She wants to get a president elected fairly this time.
Jake and Eli are back in business. It’s revealed that on the night Mellie conceded the election to Vargas, Jake disappeared to talk to someone: Eli Pope. Papa Pope says that he wants his son back, and the only way that Jake is going to win the vice presidency is to follow orders again. Jake’s first order is to kill Jennifer Fields.
Papa Pope is no longer in control. Jake shows Olivia a piece of paper that has her own secret bank account information on it that shows her account made a deposit to Tom’s account. This means it looks like she paid Tom to frame Cyrus. Eli refuses to answer any of Olivia’s questions about this. Later a woman visits Eli and says that because Olivia has gotten Mellie into the presidential race, Olivia is no longer useful to them. Olivia is now expendable. Looks like this time Papa Pope is no longer two steps ahead of everyone.
Jennifer Fields is only dead on paper. In a very sketchy meeting in a parking garage, Jake kidnaps Olivia and takes her to a creepy house in the middle of nowhere. Jake admits he only made it seem like he killed Jennifer; she’s been hiding out in the woods the entire time.
