Whether you’re looking for a good laugh with an all-female comedy cast or entertaining the thought of thrilling action from a horror flick, below are a few summer movies we can’t wait to watch once they hit theaters.
Wonder Woman (June 2)
The first female-led superhero film will soon be hitting theaters (let’s pretend Catwoman never happened) will hopefully open doors for future heroines. Gal Gadot plays Diana, the warrior princess who becomes Wonder Woman in order to help the Allied Forces during World War I.
It Comes at Night (June 9)
This post-apocalyptic horror film is director, Trey Edward Shults’ second feature film and is already getting a lot of attention from film fanatics. Starring Joel Edgerton, the film takes place at a deserted home in the woods where a mysterious and evil presence resides right outside the door. But don’t be fooled by the cliché synopsis, this one’s guaranteed to leave you spooked.
Rough Night (June 16)
Following the trend of an all-female comedy, Rough Night features a star-studded cast with Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Zoë Kravitz, and Ilana Glazer. The five women are close friends who reunite in Miami for a wild bachelorette party. Things take a turn when they end up with a dead male prostitute.
The House (June 30)
The House follows a parent’s (Will Ferrel and Amy Poehler) desperate attempt at making some quick cash after they lose their daughter’s college fund. With the help of their neighbor, they decide to start an illegal casino in the basement of their house. With Ferrel and Poehler as the leading roles, we’re bound to get a good laugh!
Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7)
Let’s hope this Spiderman reboot is the third time’s a charm. After debuting in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland plays Peter Parker in the latest standalone Spiderman film. Although he has already been introduced to audiences, Homecoming will be an origin story showing Spiderman in the early stages of his crime-fighting career.
Dunkirk (July 21)
Director, Christopher Nolan, brings his stellar resume, and a studly cast to Dunkirk. Shot on location, the film tells the tale of World War II’s Operation Dynamo, which was executed to rescue Allied soldiers from America, Belgium, Canada, and France. The movie will undoubtedly be visually beautiful, but we’re excited to see what Nolan has in store for us.
Girls Trip (July 21)
Grab your girlfriends and make a night out of watching this hilarious female casted flick. Starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish, Girls Trip follows a group of friends who decide to take a trip to New Orleans which is where shenanigans ensue. This is one summer comedy you don’t want to miss!
