Ellen DeGeneres kicked off the fourteenth season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show with a very special guest. Tony Marrero, one of the survivors of the tragic Orlando shooting at Pulse nightclub, came to the show to share how he found strength and courage after the traumatic experience.
He shared that he listened to Rise by Katy Perry and that “every word in that song is just powerful” and he plays it over and over again.
Katy Perry herself then surprised Tony and there seriously wasn’t a dry eye in the audience.
Afterwards, the Rise singer told Tony that she’d like to pay for his first year at film school, and Ellen also donated $25,000 to the foundation benefiting the Pulse victims.
