It’s so easy to get nit picky about everything that went wrong during your day — from spilling coffee on your desk to your commute taking five minutes longer. We’re all guilty of it!

However, constant negativity can breed anxiety and leave you feeling unhappy. So one simple remedy we like to practice to combat negativity is gratitude. Taking the time to be grateful can help keep you grounded and alleviate any anxiety and unhappiness.

Here are five different ways to practice gratitude every day.

Write it down. Whether it’s the first thing you do upon waking up, or the last thing you do before going to bed, write down what you’re grateful for. You can easily write them down in any notebook, but we recommend writing it down in a planner, like the Moleskine 2017 Weekly Planner (featured in the FabFitFun Winter Box). It can help you keep track of what you were grateful for in specific time periods, and it’ll be an easy way to reflect on the year!

Seek quiet. Take a quick break from your phone and your computer (yes, get off all social media). Then seek at least 60 seconds alone so you can simply reflect on your day without any distraction. Take a breather and think about what you’re grateful for that day and just appreciate the fact that you’re alive and well.

Write a thank you card.
A simple thank you can go a long way. Whether you write a note to your co-worker who helped you gather numbers on the last report or a thank you to your mom, they’ll appreciate you went out of your way to write a handwritten note. We like to use the Marie Mae Thank You Card Set to write “thank yous” to the important people in our life. Not only will you feel more content, you’ll also make someone’s day.

Observe your surroundings. Be mindful of the space you’re in and utilize all five senses to observe your surroundings. This way, you’re training yourself to be present and giving yourself an opportunity to practice gratitude in small moments, rather than holding out for momentous occasions.

Remind yourself. Set quick notifications in your phone to take a few seconds to practice gratitude, or to remind yourself to write it down in your Moleskine Planner. You can also write inspirational quotes and place it on your mirror or in your car to encourage yourself to practice gratitude daily.
