We absolutely love when the seasons change! But even with the excitement of new drink menus, different weather, and switching out our wardrobe, that one co-worker who’s coughing everywhere can ruin it all.
Unfortunately, a season change also means that different viruses come about, and people become increasingly prone to viruses like the cold or flu. And if you’re in the close quarters of an office or classroom, it’s especially easy for illnesses to spread.
So, follow the steps below to make yourself less prone to illness:
Don’t Touch Your Eyes and Nose
These two areas are hotspots for spreading bacteria and viruses. Make a concerted effort to stop touching your eyes and nose as it can reduce your risk for an upper respiratory infection by 41%.
Get the Flu Shot
Unless you’re allergic to eggs or the preservatives in the shot, it will not make you sick. So stop putting it off and get your flu shot already!
Eat Immune-Boosting Foods
Foods such as green tea and yogurt are great for your immune system. Eating colorful fruits and veggies (like pumpkin, squash, and apples) also put more antioxidants into your system.
Wash Your Hands — a Lot!
Washing your hands is one of the best ways to keep from getting sick. Wash up frequently if you’re in an office, or stash hand sanitizer in your desk or purse.
Keep Sanitizer Wipes On-Hand
Offices have a lot of community areas that can breed bacteria. While it’s hard to maintain a balance between clean and looking like a germophobe, wiping down your chair handles, keyboard, and phone before getting your day started can help. After all, cold viruses can live on hard surfaces for up to 48 hours.
Take Care of Yourself
Work (and life in general) can be stressful, but it’s important to take care of yourself. Get plenty of sleep, exercise regularly, and drink plenty of fluids to keep feeling your best.
