Do you think that taking a collagen supplement is actually beneficial to our skin or just a passing trend? – @sallycinnamon
Dr. Alexandrides: “Often collagen supplements can be perceived as a gimmick, however, clinical trials have shown positive results when tested against a placebo. Collagen supplements are rich in amino acids, the building blocks of collagen, which help to build up collagen in the body thus improving skin structure, strength, and appearance. When purchasing these supplements, look for a high quantity of collagen with a potent vitamin complex.”

What does dehydration really do to the skin? – @laura_16
Dr. Rogers: “Water is one of the most important factors in skin maturation and healing. When you are dehydrated, your skin cells will deflate making the skin look dull and wrinkly and slow your skin’s ability to heal. Stay hydrated!”

Tip: Spritz the grace & stella Rose Facial Spray on your face to keep skin fresh and moisturized.

What are the differences between all the retinol creams out there? Are some better than others and how can you tell which ones give the best results for anti-aging? – @fodalo7
Dr. Alexandrides: “Retinol is a highly-effective anti-aging ingredient. However, it is known for associated dryness. I would look for products that also include essential oils or hydrating actives to prevent flaky or dry skin post-use. You should also look at the percentage of retinol within the formula. For non-prescription skin care, the maximum amount allowed is 1%. Retinol should be used with caution – build up tolerance by starting off once or twice per week and increasing thereafter, and follow up with a good quality moisturizer.”

What are good hair products for someone with an oily scalp? – @jmiel
Dr. Kang: “Hair roots have sebaceous glands, which secrete an oily substance called sebum, to help keep your scalp healthy. However, cases of over-secretion of sebum from sebaceous glands can cause one to have an oily scalp. The oil can attract dirt more easily and may irritate the scalp. Some causes of excess sebum secretion are genes, hormonal imbalances, humidity, diet, and stress.”

Tip: According to Living Proof stylist Maria Mahoney, Living Proof shampoos and conditioners contain a patented Healthy Hair Molecule, OFPMA, which keeps hair cleaner, longer by repelling dirt from the hair. Living Proof products do not contain silicones, ingredients found in many hair care products, which heavily coat and weigh down the hair.

Are there any fixes for uneven skin tone from hormonal changes that actually work? – @kimberly.wohlfarth
Dr. Alexandrides: “Some skin discoloration, such as melasma, is caused by hormonal imbalance. Typically found on the forehead, cheeks, and chin, melasma can vary in degree, but in most cases, will look dark and patchy and might cause insecurities. There is no quick fix for treating melasma, but signs can be visibly reduced through advanced skin care [made with] ingredients that can regulate melanin, such as vitamin C and brightening actives [like] niacinamide and licorice root extract.”

[What are the] best products to combat dryness from chlorine and salt water pools? – @ewood085
Dr. Rogers: “I know it sounds strange, but moisturize before you get into the pool! The chemicals in pools dry out your skin, but if you coat yourself with a thick moisturizer…before jumping in, your skin will be protected.”

Tip: Apply the Doctor Rogers RESTORE® Healing Balm to any problem areas before jumping into the water to give skin long-lasting hydration and protection.

What really works on curly/wavy/frizzy hair? I feel like I’ve tried everything and get no results. – @koby629
Dr. Kang: “First, let’s talk about why these hair types are typically more difficult to manage. Generally, curly/wavy hair has a natural tendency to be dry. Because of the curly shape, the natural oils your scalp produces, which usually act as a lubricant to the hair, cannot easily travel down the strand of a curly hair. Therefore, curly hair is drier and usually has more friction between hair strands. Friction = frizz!”

Tip: The Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream is “ideal for all frizz-prone hair types and is especially suited for wavy and curly hair since it has added conditioning,” according to Mahoney. “[The cream] smooths, conditions, and eliminates frizz by blocking humidity without weighing hair down.

[What are the] best products to diminish or get rid of age spots on the face without having to get laser treatments? – @kitty
Dr. Alexandrides: “Laser is an effective solution but there are less invasive treatments available that can provide the desired effect. In order to reduce discoloration – including age spots – you need to look for ingredients that reduce tyrosinase production. Tyrosinase is an enzyme that is a catalyst for melanin (skin pigment) production, which determines the color of our skin and can be more apparent in some areas, leaving an uneven skin tone.”

What is the best thing for texture and large pores? – @wolfsnaps8
Dr. Alexandrides: “In order to reduce pores, I would recommend using ingredients [with] a tightening and toning effect. Riboxyl™, for example, is an active ingredient, which can help to improve elasticity and tone, in turn helping with pore size and visibility.”

I tend to sweat more in the summer (like most people) and get little breakouts along my hairline. What can I do to prevent that? – @nicoliemariep
Dr. Kang: “Excess hormones, oils, and clogged pores are the main causes of breakouts. Sweat does not cause acne directly. However, you may be experiencing breakouts because an increased buildup of bacteria and sweat can block pores, and this sweat-induced blockage can result in breakouts. If your hair follicles get blocked in areas where you also have many oil and sweat glands, you may also get breakouts.”

Tip: If you have sensitive skin and are prone to breakouts, avoid products with heavy silicones, oils, and heavy fragrances. You may also consider using less product and not layering with too many products, according to Mahoney.

As I get older I have little red spider veins appearing on my face. What really works to get rid of these unsightly things? – @koby629
Dr. Alexandrides: “Spider veins are essentially broken or swollen blood vessels and often require clinical intervention, such as laser therapy or IPL (Intense Pulled Light). Simple laser treatments work by using a highly-focused beam of heat to damage the vein in question, so that scar tissue is formed to cut off the blood supply, [which] reduces its appearance and can often make it disappear altogether.”
