She’s a TV star, mom, wife, author, fitness inventor, and world traveler — and somehow she always looks amazing!
Brooke Burke, the Dancing with the Stars beauty, talked with us this week about being a mom, balancing a career, handling stress, and fighting the muffin top (with her signature Baboosh Body exercise wrap).
FFF: Naked Mom just hit the shelves. Can you tell us a little about the book?
BB: It’s about not losing your sense of self in the process of devoting your life to your family and your partner. When I was a younger mom, it was all about the kids. Now I’ve learned that my relationship, and myself as a woman, are as important as my children. It’s about finding that balance – being able to listen to your inner voice and accomplish your goals even when you’re a mother.
FFF: How do you balance your family life and career while looking so fab?
BB: Thank you! I would say that I’m flexible. I let my children educate me every day. And I let go of the expectations that I had when it comes to family.
FFF: You’re in amazing shape. What’s your typical fitness routine?
BB: I am obsessed with Pilates Plus right now. I do it three to four times a week. There are about 16 studios in LA, but they’re opening up everywhere. I’m crazy about that. I eat healthy. And I try to do cardio a couple times a week, although I don’t have a lot of time as a busy mom. I also use Baboosh Body, which is the waist trimmer that I created. It helps me sweat out inches from my tummy. It helps to make the most of my workout.
FFF: We love anything that helps us burn calories more quickly! Sounds like it is great for women on the go.
BB: Yes, exactly. No one has a lot of time and you have to make the most of your workout. This definitely enhances my workout! It helps me sweat and really tone my tummy.
FFF: And you also have a product that’s geared toward women who recently gave birth?
BB: That’s Tauts. It’s a postpartum pregnancy wrap. I used that to get my tummy back in shape after giving birth. That’s like a 100% must have for anyone that’s pregnant. That’s your number one first purchase, just had your baby, need to get your belly back in shape!
FFF: If you had one piece of beauty or fitness advice for our readers what would it be?
BB: Make time for yourself. Make it a priority. Especially if you’re a mom, make sure to take care of yourself as much as you take care of your children. You need that “me” time. It really helps to balance stress if you are a working woman. And you can’t feel guilty. It’s not selfish. You’ve gotta be able to give yourself that room. It is rewarding in so many ways.
FFF: You’re having a great career. What has been the highlight so far?
BB: Dancing with the Stars. I mean it really is the most glamorous gig for a female host. I am so glad to have that job. I love it. I mean, I have really been so lucky — I have had a string of great opportunities, but Dancing with the Stars is definitely it.
FFF: Do you have a favorite contestant over the years?
BB: Not really. They all bring something different to the show. And I relate to all of them because I competed! I really know what it’s like.
FFF: Speaking of winning, that was a pretty amazing feat! That must have been extremely satisfying!
BB: It was huge! It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I learned so many life lessons while competing. There’s actually a chapter in the book that talks about what it took to win, what I went through and what goes on behind the scenes. It was an amazing, challenging, terrifying, wonderful experience.
