Winter blues leaving you with the urge to jet set off to paradise? You should add the British Virgin Islands to your bucket list.

After braving two storms (Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria) in 2017, the tropical paradise is on its way back to show visitors a good time. The treasured destination is a hotspot for anyone with a case of wanderlust for its luxurious resorts, breathtaking views, the abundance of activities (both water and land), and more.

Not sure where to start? Here are four BVI spots and activities every first-timer needs to try.

Stay at the Cooper Island Beach Club

While the British Virgin Islands offers a wide range of places to stay, there’s none quite like the Cooper Island Beach Club. This eco-luxe resort is currently undergoing renovations to the boardwalks and docks after the hurricanes and is set to reopen April 1 (which means you have time to book a flight and hash out your itinerary!) Whether you’re looking to lounge on a quiet beach or do something a little more adventurous like learning to scuba dive, you’ll find the perfect escape from everyday life here, in the heart of the BVI.

Go island hopping

The British Virgin Islands is comprised of 60 islands and cays in the northwestern region of the Caribbean Sea, making it especially rich in once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Check out Jost van Dyke for its fun beach bars like Foxy’s and Soggy Dollar or Anegada (which was spared by the hurricane) for natural beauty and a beloved flock of bright pink flamingos. Luckily, it’s so easy to explore BVI — simply take a ferry from one island to the next (find more info here).

Explore what lies beneath the surface

Whatever island you’re at, you’ll find that there are countless dive sites to explore the deep blue sea. From towering reefs of corals to underwater caves, tunnels, and shipwrecks, the turquoise waters will offer an unforgettable and adrenaline-pumping experience for both novice and experienced divers alike. Check out diving tours and classes here. We highly recommend checking out the Wreck of the RMS Rhone and BVI Art Reef (an underwater art gallery) for one-of-a-kind experiences.

Time for a “Bath”!!!!

Visit the Baths on Virgin Gorda

This is BVI’s most famous attraction — and for good reason. Incredible boulders line the crystal blue waters where visitors can wade or swim through. The Baths are at the bottom of the hill of Virgin Gorda, but guests can also venture to the top of the hill where there’s a restaurant you can dine at. You can’t miss out on this picturesque location!

Take in the breathtaking sights at Sage Mountain

The British Virgin Islands aren’t just limited to water activities — there’s a multitude of land activities, too. Take the Sage Mountain National Park for example; the farmland was purchased from farmers and given to the BVI government as a national park. Now, the reforested land features an entire mahogany trail that leads to the highest point in the British and U.S. Virgin Islands. The panoramic views of all the islands truly can’t be beat.
